A Serendipitous Choice: Morag is a familiar face in the shop, often accompanied by her mother and sister for a browse through our latest collections. During one of these visits, while looking at stones for an entirely different project, she had pointed out a vivid pink sapphire from my gemstone tray. She mentioned in passing how much she would love such a stone for an engagement ring, never dreaming that Callum was paying very close attention.

The Commission: Armed with this “secret” information, Callum commissioned me to create a setting that would do justice to both the sapphire and Morag’s personal style. Using a pink sapphire offers a beautiful, vibrant alternative to a traditional diamond, providing a pop of romantic colour that feels both modern and timeless. We worked together to ensure the mounting would complement the sapphire’s unique hue and provide the durability needed for everyday wear.

The Big Reveal: Being part of such a thoughtful surprise was a true highlight for me. When Callum finally popped the question, the ring was exactly what Morag had dreamed of, right down to the very stone she had admired months prior. I was absolutely delighted to hear that she loved the finished design, and it remains a wonderful example of how bespoke jewellery can turn a subtle hint into a stunning reality.
