Timorous Beastie

A project for Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival

To mark The Homecoming Year, Joe Gibbs, the founder of Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, devised a competition to design and make a mouse, inspired by one of the Burns best loved poems. The jewel, with a retail value of £22,000.

The competition was open to all UK jewellers and was won by Susan.

Susan’s entry piece was a mouse created in 18ct white gold covered in 184 natural champagne, cognac, pink and fine white diamonds with a black diamond eye. It is clinging to a solid 18ct yellow gold stalk of barley, and is 29.5g of yellow gold and 29g of white gold. It is a substantial heirloom piece, about 2″ high, which can be worn as a pendant or a brooch.

The mouse is mounted on a carved beech stand which can be hung on a wall or used as a very  special desk ornament.
