REMODELLING stories

The 1969 Keepsake

A REMODELLING project for Laura

Remodelling jewellery is often about more than just aesthetics; it is an act of preservation. When Laura reached out via email, she didn’t just send photos of jewellery; she sent a piece of her family history. Alongside images of her mother’s engagement and interlocking eternity bands, she included a copy of the original receipt from 1969—a poignant reminder of the moment her parents’ journey began.

The Heritage: The original rings were a classic snapshot of late-sixties design, featuring a distinct character that had served Laura’s mother for decades. Having inherited these pieces, Laura felt the weight of their history but found that the style didn’t quite suit her own modern lifestyle. She wanted to ensure the sentimental value remained intact while transforming the gold and stones into something that felt uniquely hers.

The Brief: Laura’s request was beautifully simple: she wanted a single, understated ring that she could wear every day. The goal was to create a piece that wouldn’t sit in a jewellery box for “best,” but would instead become a constant, tactile connection to her mother. We discussed ways to refine the original materials into a more contemporary silhouette that retained the soul of the 1969 originals.

The Transformation: The final design distilled the essence of her mother’s rings into a clean, timeless band. By repurposing the original metal and stones, we created a piece that feels light on the hand but heavy with meaning. Now, whenever Laura glances down at her hand, she is reminded of her mother and a story that spans over half a century, reimagined for a new generation.
