The Bespoke Diamond Bombé Ring
The Bespoke Diamond Bombé Ring

The “bombé” form—a name derived from the French for a curved or domed silhouette—is a sculptural jewellery style that reached its height of popularity in the mid-20th century. Characterised by its voluminous, swelling profile, the design provides a significant surface area, making it an ideal framework for the intensive setting of gemstones and the repurposing of legacy metals.

This contemporary iteration was commissioned as a way to consolidate several generations of family history into a single object. The piece was constructed using the gold from a grandfather’s watch chain, providing a rich, high-carat foundation for the pavé-set diamonds reclaimed from various rings and a family tie stud. The resulting dome follows the ergonomic “boule” shape, offering a substantial presence on the finger while ensuring a smooth, tactile finish. By integrating these disparate elements into a unified, architectural form, the ring preserves the material integrity of the original heirlooms within a timeless, curvilinear design.
