The Isle of Lewis Sapphire and Diamond Ring
The Isle of Lewis Sapphire and Diamond Ring

This platinum ring features a pear-cut sapphire of significant regional importance, recovered as rough material from the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. As the only known source of sapphire in Scotland, the location is now a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), making these stones increasingly scarce and establishing this piece as a rare example of entirely Scottish-sourced corundum.

The central sapphire was custom-cut from its raw state to maximise its deep blue saturation and tailored to a pear-shaped silhouette. It is set within a platinum frame and flanked by brilliant-cut diamonds, a combination chosen for its structural durability and the way the cool, white lustre of the metal enhances the stone’s particular tonal depth. Commissioned to mark a fortieth wedding anniversary, the design focuses on the prestige of the Hebridean provenance, resulting in a contemporary piece that serves as a material record of the Scottish landscape and traditional lapidary craft.
